Scientists Injected Tiny Robots into Cockroaches to Create Living Computers Jesse Emspak, Live Science   Nanotechnology just got a little bit smarter. At the Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials at Israel’s Bar-Ilan University, Ido Bachelet led a team of scientists in building tiny robots that can respond to chemical cues and operate inside a living animal. More than that, they can operate as logic gates, essentially acting as real computers. That gives the  nanobots — on the order of nanometers, or one-billionth of a meter — the ability to follow specific instructions, making them programmable. Such tiny robots could do everything from target tumors to repair tissue damage. The experimenters used a technique called “ DNA origami ” to make the robots. DNA comes in a double-helix shape, making long strings. And like yarn, the strings can be linked together to make different shapes.

How to Make Your iPhone Read Anything Out Loud David Pogue   Want to make your iPhone read aloud almost anything on your screen? Here’s how.  Note: To turn on any of the iPhone features described here, open Settings  → General → Accessibility . VoiceOver VoiceOver is the option that makes the iPhone speak everything you touch — even the little status gauges at the top of the screen. On the VoiceOver settings pane, tap the On/Off switch to turn VoiceOver on. Because VoiceOver radically changes the way you control your phone, you must dismiss a warning to confirm that you know what you’re doing. Immediately, you hear a female voice begin reading the names of the controls she sees on the screen. You can also adjust the speaking rate of the synthesized voice. Now you’re ready to start using the iPhone in VoiceOver mode. There’s a lot to learn, and practice makes perfect, but here’s the overvie
HEARTBLEED DETECTOR RELEASED, ALLOWING YOU TO CHECK IF YOUR ANDROID DEVICE IS VULNERABLE. On Monday the devastating new bug in OpenSSL was discovered which severely compromises the integrity of secure communications. Not only that, but there isn ’ t much the user can do about it. Now that it ’ s been discovered a new app called “ Heartbleed Detector ” has been released, which will tell you if you ’ re running the vulnerable version of Android on your device. Hit the break for more and the Google Play store link! Heartbleed is essentially a flaw in the “ Heartbeats ” function of OpenSSL, which helps keep secure connections alive, that allows an attacker to steal up to 64K of data at a time. The Heartbleed Detector determines if your device is running the faulty version of software. Unfortunately, if you do have an issue the only thing you can really do is check if you have an Android update.
If You Do Not Have Facebook Messenger You will very soon   Those of you that rely on the Facebook app for your chats won ’ t be able to much longer if Facebook follows through on their plan. Facebook has notified users in a few European countries that messaging friends in the Facebook app will stop in about 2 weeks. Users will still be able to message their friends, but they will have to download and install the Facebook Messenger app in order to do so. This doesn ’ t appear to be a “ test ” and is the long term plan for Facebook. You can expect this change to hit every country, but there are a few caveats. Those with lower-end Android devices won ’ t be required to use Messenger. Also, for whatever reason, Windows phone users will still be able to see messages in the Facebook app. Finally, the Paper newsreader app (not on Android yet) will still show messages. So what do you guys think? I personally don ’ t use Facebook much anymore, and the few people that do messa
LG G3 Screenshot leaks, showing Flatter UI The upcoming LG G3 has had a few leaks, but really nothing compared to some other devices. Despite this, a screenshot of the device allegedly leaked today, showing off a flatter design and overall UI. So far we know that the device will have a 5.5 inch qHD display, will be water resistant and dust-proof. A few other speculations are out there, but nothing really solid. This new leak adds new information to the growing list, and shows off what is supposed to be LG ‘ s new enhanced UI. The flat design follows the trend that ’ s being set by Apple and Samsung, and it will be interesting to see what other changes are made to the design.
